Allyson M. Deese: Thank you for agreeing to do this interview for my blog, I really appreciate it.
AMD: Tell us who you are?
JB: I’m Author J. Brinkley and I am from Tifton, Georgia.
AMD: Tell us about your books? What genre do you write?
JB: I am an urban fiction and urban romance writer. So far, I have written Eight books.
AMD: Has this always been your dream? What else did you want to do? Have you done it?
JB: I would have never guessed in a million years that I would be writing. I never took it seriously until I hit my mid-twenties. I wouldn’t mind getting my CDL’s or being a Computer Tech. I have also considered acting.
AMD: What inspired you to write?
JB: There’s a lot of things I can’t say to people, so I jot it down in my notepad or book. I’m inspired by the things I see on a daily basis. I am also inspired by my own ups and downs.
AMD: Are you self-published or published through a company? What is the name?
JB: I am a Self-published author. My company name is Voma Publications.
AMD: What was your journey like into the writing industry?
JB: It’s been rough, but I am staying optimistic about it. I’m a work in progress.
AMD: What was the toughest experience of your journey?
JB: Getting exposure.
AMD: Who is the person that has most influenced your life?
JB: My mom.
AMD: Do you have any writing rituals? How long does it take you from start to finish?
JB: A month or a month and a half.
AMD: What makes your pen stand out from other authors in the same genre?
JB: I don’t know. I just focus on doing me.
AMD: What do you want the readers to get out of your work?
JB: I try to put something educational in my books. We are all aware of the violence that takes place in the world but what’s the solution for a change? How many people want to change? And what can we do to make that change? I ask myself these questions.
AMD: What are you like during deadline time?
JB: Crunch time! Crunch time! lol
AMD: Have you ever experienced writer’s block? What do you do, if that happens?
JB: No, I haven’t.
AMD: Urban fiction has a lot of negative stigma and assumptions of perpetuating black stereotypes. What are your thoughts on that?
JB: It’s real life and besides people abroad and from different ethnic groups are mimicking the lifestyle they hate so much. This is funny yet so hypocritical. However, it’s clear that we live in a double standard society.
AMD: As an African American Author do you see your work as being relatable to a general public?
AMD: Can you tell us about any future projects you are working on?
JB: I’ll rather not disclose that information as of yet. I will say that I have a few projects in the making.
AMD: How can the readers find you?
JB: My website: www.vomapublications.com
AMD: Please list all of your currently published titles.
JB: 1) Tears Of Evidence, 2) Amorous Déjà vu 1&2, 3)Ghetto Tales Of Anguish 1&2, 4) I Forgot To Be Your Lover, 5) Afraid To Love You, 6) Revenge.
AMD: Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview, we wish you nothing but continued success.
